What is a mass intention?
Mass Intentions refer to the particular purpose for which a specific mass is offered. This may be to honor God, or thank him for blessings received. But, technically a Mass intention means that the sacrifice is offered for some person(s) living or deceased.
What are the requirements to become a member?
It is really simple to become a member here at St. Patrick's, all you must do is come to our office and ask to be registered as a parishioner.
What are the requirements to baptize?
"Pastors must ascertain the spiritual qualifications of sponsors. The sponsor for any candidate may be male or female and is to be sufficiently mature, a practicing Catholic, who has him/herself not been prohibited by law from exercising the roles of sponsor. One of the Baptismal Godparents is not only allowed, but is in fact desired the Confirmation sponsor, so as to emphasize the relationship between Baptism and Confirmation." This person is an active witness of the Catholic faith in both word and deed, and is able to perform the duties of Confirmation Sponsor (Canon 893).
Can 2 (two) of the same sex serve as Godparents?
Unfortunately, no. According to the instructions of the Catholic Church, one male or female is sufficient. Canon Law states that no one can have more than two godparents, nor can anyone have 2 godparents of the same sex.
Can a non-catholic serve as a baptismal and/or confirmation sponsor?
No, a non-catholic can not serve as a baptismal/confirmation sponsor. A baptized non-catholic may be permitted to serve at a Catholic baptism but only in company with another Catholic sponsor, and simply as a witness. But in the parish's sacramental record, only the Catholic will be recorded as the official sponsor of the child. For Confirmation, only one sponsor will be allowed and the sponsor must be a practicing catholic.
Can a catholic marry a non-catholic?
Yes, necessary paper work will be needed. Meeting with a priest must be made and appointment must be made beforehand. Priest will explain process.
What are the different colors used for the vestments at mass?
The sense of sight, including color, plays an important role in Catholic worship. The colors of a Catholic priest’s vestments help the faithful know that certain celebrations are at hand.
